Easy navigation for when this list gets longer:
Books
i've been an avid reader since i was a kid, and so i've been stacking up favorite books for a long long time. will mainly try and put only the most recent/all-time favorite ones on here, though, for brevity.
A Place For Us, Fatima Farheen Mirza
one of my genuine favorite books of all time. deals with religion and family and love and racism with immense grace
A Chorus of Dragons, Jenn Lyons
god this is a ridiculously good book series. one of those ones that completely reshaped my perspective on what the fantasy genre can be.
The Locked Tomb Trilogy, Tamsyn Muir
definitely also a favorite. read this back in... 2022? 2023? and it changed my life and approach to writing by the first pop culture reference.
Movies
have recently been getting very big on movies. very big on staring at movies until they make sense. bring back better color grading
Pacific Rim
"mako/raleigh was the queerplatonic blueprint!!!" i yell as i'm dragged into the darkness kicking and screaming
Monkey Man
I AM SO EXTREMELY NORMAL ABOUT THIS MOVIE............ heed the audience age rating, but it is an extremely good extremely fun movie especially for a directorial debut from mr. dev patel himself
Podcasts
let's be real, i don't listen to a lot of these, but when i do i greatly enjoy them! the grand majority of these are horror, though, so be warned.
The Magnus Archives
my first ever narrative podcast!! got into this in like 2021/2022 and it truly changed my brain chemistry. standard interview/interviewee horror podcast for quite a while until you get into the meat of it but very worth it once you do, IF you do like the kind of tone it has. very much beginner horror.
The Silt Verses
i haven't fully gotten to start in this yet but from what i've heard (from others, and so far in the podcast itself) it is quite gorgeously done.
Music
HUGE fan of all music ever. i don't have my comment thing up and running yet but once i do i am ALWAYS open to recs!! i'm an album listener so most, if not all of these recs will be entire albums.
The Great Impersonator, Halsey
i am a big big fan of concept albums in general but also especially when Halsey does them. this one hits me deeply in the personal feelings, so that's why i'm only listing this one. a personal favorite from the album is "Hurt Feelings".
A Single Flower, We Lost the Sea
baby's first instrumental album!! for real though this was a gorgeous listen top to bottom and the first time i heard it it blew my ears out it was so good.
Swan Sting, Tiger Really
this was recommended to me by a friend a little while ago and i truly think this is what made me take a nosedive back into alternative music again even though i never really left
Shows
ALSO a very big fan of every show.
Arcane: League of Legends
when the s1 finale came out i seated myself in a very normal way on the floor and absolutely did not crawl my way there. say what u will about season 2 but it is still a masterclass of animation & storytelling. on BOTH seasons. 2 me
The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
if Jim Henson's dream of a dark fantasy story told almost entirely via puppets and practical effects i genuinely don't know what will get you. character design, soundtrack, actors all across the board, all fantastic and unique and beautiful in the best way.
Naruto/Naruto: Shippuden
all-time favorite. cannot say you had to be there because i am still discovering new storylines that i never saw because i was, in fact, seven
